When cancer affects the vocal cords it causes a change in the voice Even when the growth is one or two millimeters it produces a change in the voice. If you have a hoarseness in your voice whichdoes notimprove in 3 weeks, go to an ENT specialist and have your throat examined. Other symptoms that may occur are a sense of discomfort in the throat, a lump in the throat, coughing or difficulty or pain in breathing or swallowing and earache. |

Small cancers can be cured by laser surgery or radiation and the voice can be restored to normal. Late cancers can also be cured but with a permanent loss of voice. Most of those who develop this type of cancer use or have used tobacco and many are also heavy drinkers of alcohol. |
